NICHOLAS PILATO

B. 1986, BROOKLYN, NY

Nicolas Pilato received his BFA from the University of Florida and his MFA from Rutgers University. Pilato’s work involves the construction of surfaces and their disruption through varying methods of deterioration, abrasion and formal displacement. His work references the natural and the human, invoking aspects of sedimentation, erosion as well as industrial decay. Through creation and destruction, Pilato’s work is marked by constant flux, a divergence away from the appearance of the handmade and towards an evanescent sense of material and image.

He has exhibited at Anat Ebgi Gallery; Gallerie Derouillon, Paris, France; Moulin du Roc, Niort, France; Brand New Gallery, Milan, Italy; Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, New York, NY and many more. He was awarded a teaching fellowship at the Brodsky Center for Innovative Editions and the University Scholars Research Award at the University of Florida.
