HUGH STEERS

B. 1963 D. 1995 New york, NY

Hugh Steers, who died of AIDS at the age of 32, painted and sketched intimate portraits of men in domestic settings, drawing on the tradition of Hopper, Paul Cadmus, and Bonnard.  His lithographs, completed in his last year, build on a tradition of masters in french printmaking, filled with light and color.  He was represented by Richard Anderson with several solo shows in the late 1980's and early 1990's. His estate is now represented by Alexander Gray Associates.
